I’ve Seen the System Fail Too Many Patients

Woman with hands over face experiencing emotion of defeat

I spent over two decades as a registered nurse in some of the best emergency departments in the country — Zuckerberg San Francisco General, Massachusetts General, Brigham & Women's.

And I watched the same thing happen, over and over again.

People coming in — not with emergencies — but with chronic, complex problems that nobody had taken the time to actually solve. They'd been given a medication. A referral. Sometimes a procedure they didn't even need. And they kept coming back. Still suffering. Still without answers.

I've been that patient too. I know what it feels like to know something is wrong — and be told everything looks normal. To be dismissed. To be gaslit by the very system you're trusting with your health.

It's infuriating. And it's unacceptable.

The Wrong Map

Conventional medicine is extraordinary — for the right problem. Asthma attack? Heart attack? Broken bone? Car Accident? It's exactly where you want to be.

But for chronic, complex conditions? It's the wrong tool for the job.

It's like using a map of Paris when you're in San Francisco. It's not that the map is bad. It's just the wrong map.

The conventional system isn't designed to ask why. It's designed to rule-out disease, treat symptoms and refer. And patients pay the price.

A Different Question

In Functional Medicine, we dare to ask:

“Why is this happening in the first place?”

I investigate. I don't guess. I look at your full picture — your labs, your history, your symptoms, your life — and I find the pattern everyone else missed.

And then I teach you what I'm seeing. Because the moment things start making sense — everything changes!

That's the part that lights me up. Watching someone finally connect the dots. Seeing them realize they're not broken. What their body has been trying to tell them something all along — and someone finally listened.
